3. Cut a 12" (30 cm) length of thread. Thread the needle and knot one end of the thread. Pin the top edges together and whipstitch the top closed. (Fig. 3)

4. Trace the shaped, sewn top of the sock onto a piece of felt. It should look like an inverted V. Draw a horizontal line between the ends of the inverted V to make a triangle. Cut out the triangle.

5. Fold down the V-shaped part of the sock. Position the long edge of the felt triangle along the folded edge of the sock. Pin everything in place and whipstitch the straight, top edge. (Fig. 4)
